Is counselling for you?

As human beings we tend to repeat patterns from the past. Difficult patterns can, and may have taken hold, but they can also be talked about, loosened, and understood with support and time.

Our early years have so much influence on the way we live our lives today. Early and negative patterns can emerge at any time in our lives, particularly when we are under any kind of stress.

How might we be affected by stress and depression?

  • By getting things out of proportion

  • Our sleeping patterns change

  • Panic attacks

  • Morbid thoughts and hypochondria

  • We may be easily irritated - on a short fuse

  • Our usual appetites may diminish

  • More serious physical symptoms may result when we feel out of control and overwhelmed

  • When you first come to see a counsellor you may not know where to begin. You may feel apprehensive and unsure, but don't worry, this is normal! The counsellor will encourage you to talk as openly and freely as possible. The relationship with your counsellor is important as it can reveal an insight into your relationships with others, but it is also important that you feel comfortable with your counsellor.
